This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Mt Kenya Re-forestation Project
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Mount Kenya Leisure Lodge works with the local Manyatta Village to raise seedlings for reforestation of Mt Kenya's forest. The project site is set amidst Kikuyu homesteads and small scale farms only a short distance from the lodge. Visitors to the lodge are encouraged to take a guided nature walk during which they have a chance to visit the site.
Through cultural visits and treks around Mt Kenya, the Mt Kenya Leisure Lodge imparts knowledge about Mount Kenya and the need to conserve its resources.
The lodge provides employment to the local people as waiters, managers, porters etc.
Where possible, the lodge buys all vegetables and meat locally from the surrounding farms and markets.
