Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club supports the conservation of Kenya’s wildlife, the main resource that sustains the country is the tourism industry. Through the William Holden Foundation, a non-profit organization, the Club supports the captive breeding program for the bongo, an endangered species of antelopes, with the objective of reintroducing them back into the wild. There’s an animal orphanage adjacent to the Club which serves as a popular conservation education centre for children from local schools.
Guided nature walks are organized as part of the Club’s efforts to educate its visitors on the flora and fauna of Mount Kenya and the need to conserve the ecosystem. The resident naturalist leads the tours.
